In cooperation with Vulkana, we arrange this years most amazing climbing course! The plan is climbing at various destinations around Kvaløya, Troms. And we will eat, sleep and relax aboard the wonderful boat Vulkana, that transports us between the various crags and mountains.
Kvaløya has amazing rock quality, and many beautiful climbing areas that are ideal for climbing courses. All of the crags are within walking distance of the sea and are located in beautiful surroundings.
Vulkana has spa facilities, like sauna and jacuzzi, food and accommodation. You can read more about the boat here: http://www.vulkana.no/en/
13-17th of June → Entry deadline: 13th of May.
18-22th of July → Entry deadline: 15th of June.
We meet at Vulkana in Tromsø at 12.00 and drive out to Småbakkan on Kvaløya to practice moving on rock and climbing techniques. After climbing we go back to the boat, before departing towards Sommarøy and the next days destination.
A three-course dinner is served during the evening. Along the way, we will plan the climbing and look at the equipment we will use tomorrow.
After a good breakfast and packed lunch, we will be set ashore on our first destination, which might be Brensholmen. The cliff is beautifully situated right next to the sea and is ideal for climbing courses. Here we will start up with some climbing on bolted routes before we go through trad equipment, and start practice how to use it. During our day, we will enjoy our lunch in beautiful surroundings. After climbing, a sauna and hot tub are waiting on Vulkana before a three-course dinner. In the evening we talk about experiences from the day, go through some theory and plan the next day.
Today, Grøtfjordklumpane in Grøtfjorden can be our climbing crag. Here we will have loads of sun, and with great mountains and glaciers surrounding us. We will also have ocean view from the crag. We will continue to work with trad climbing techniques. Today we will also be introduced to belays and how to climb multi-pitch routes. In the evening aboard the boat we might show some pictures from a climbing trip to Patagonia.
This will be the last day of climbing, and it’s time to get a little higher in the mountains. The goal is to try a multi-pitch route or a ridge traverse with some climbing. A destination which is suitable for practicing, without being too difficult is the Vengsøya traverse. Vengsøya is a beautiful island out in the open sea, with an amazing view! The mountain range on this island is nice to walk from west to east, and it has some climbing along the way. Alternatively this day may be Zapffeegga at Zapffetoppen up at Hollenderan. This will depend on the group and conditions in the mountains.
If the weather is nice, we will find a beach and light the barbecue in the evening, during the midnight sun. Alternatively, the jacuzzi and sauna are still warm tonight …
Sailing back to Tromsø and returning home. Estimated arrival Tromsø at 13.00. There will be served lunch on the way.
