Talk to a guideBergbjørn Fjellservice is a Norwegian mountain guiding company based in the far north, where the Arctic mountains around Tromsø, Narvik and the Skjomen area offer some of the cleanest climbing terrain in Europe. The team consists of certified IFMGA mountain guides who accompany guests on rock routes, glacier ascents, winter climbs, ridge traverses and summit days in the Lyngen Alps and the surrounding ranges. Every outing is tailored to the group, the season and the snow, ice and weather conditions at the time, so beginners and experienced alpinists alike get a programme that fits their ability rather than a fixed template.
The climbing courses are structured programmes designed to build technique and judgement step by step. Summer courses cover movement, belaying and basic rock skills on easy routes, while winter courses introduce crampon technique, ice axe work, snow anchoring and glacier travel on routes near the hut and base area. Advanced participants can work on technical ice, mixed climbing and steep alpine lines, with emphasis on rope craft, anchors, self-arrest and safe descent. Courses are run from first moves on rock to more serious objectives, always with the guide setting the pace according to conditions and the group's comfort.
Beyond courses, the company arranges guided day tours, overnight trips and multi-week adventures combining climbing, skiing, snowboarding, dogsledding, mountain biking and hiking. Guests can request a custom adventure, whether that means a single day on Stetind, a traverse of the Svolværgeita, an ascent of Envers des Aiguilles or a relaxed week in the mountains with husky sled trips included. Whatever the shape of the trip, preparation and motivation are treated as part of the experience, so that time in the Arctic rewards both newcomers and old hands with memorable, well-managed days out above the fjords.
